P90X Chest, Shoulders and Triceps

Overall there are 24 exercises in the workout so I will tell you about my favorites and go a little into detail with each.  This routine is performed at weeks 5, 6, 7, 10 and 12 and will test your ability to the max.  I think this P90x workout is my favorite because it works a mans most feared areas.  After this workout you will be tight all over the upper body and feel like you can lift anything.  This workout involves lots of push ups, presses and several type of Flys.

Like any other P90X workout you will always start out with a mini stretch usually lasting about 5- 6 minutes.  After that its non-stop action with a few 30 second breaks.  I believe the hardest exercises on this DVD is the beginning where your doing 3 in 1 push ups.  These push ups test your ability to actually go slow in push up mode.  You go down for a 3 count and then up for a 3 count but after 3 times you quickly do 3 punch ups fast.  I have done this program twice and can now get through the first sequence.  Tony Horton takes you through a sequence of shoulder Flys and my favorite of course chair dips.  Chair dips are what give me the size in my arms so I try and do at least 25 reps in the time allotted.

You then get into a series of what Tony calls Scarecrows and its as simple as standing like a scarecrow but with weights.  I like it because your dangling a dumbbell in each arm and then having to swing it up creating a U with your arms.  Its pretty easy with 5-10 pound weights but try it with 20 pounders and its a little more challenging.   After about three or four more exercises of push ups, tricep extensions and Y-Presses you enter in a phase of clap, one arm and one arm balance push ups.

The name says it all on these but I thought I would never be able to do any of these style of push ups because its what you see in the movies.  I believe one of the movies was GI. Jane which was bad A$$.  Anyway you are doing push-ups and in between them your clapping your hands in the air before going down for another one.  The one arm push is pretty self explanatory but after doing P90x a second time through I can do 4 on each arm.  Doesn’t seem too impressive but before I was doing them on my knees.  Balance one arms are doing a push up and then moving into a T like position with one arm on the ground and your feet stacked on top of the other.  Look at the letter T and tip it over to its side and that’s what your doing for one minute.  The nice thing is they also do this in the Yoga X workout as well so you will get the hang of it.  I can’t promise that you will get through this workout the first time but after a while you get used to it and can get the results like I did.

The last few exercises you do are throw the Bomb, weighted circles and cross body blows.  Throwing the bomb is fun because your pretty much imagining throwing a football to a receiver but its a heavy dumbbell in your hand.  This tests your range of motion as well your back strength.  Weighted circles are once again making your body into a T with a dumbbell on each arm and then making small circular motions 10 times forward and then 10 time back.  This step is repeated twice so a total of 40 circles.  Lastly, after all this fun is coming to a close you lay on your back with a set of dumbbell’s and punch the sky crossing your hands from right to left and left to right.  Finally your done with your hour long workout and there is one more day gone but wait you still have to do Ab Ripper X!  You shouldn’t have to do this everyday and that’s why its in your program every other day.  If your looking to get ripped quicker and can’t stand the soreness that comes from this workout or any other one then make sure you pick up the recovery drink.  It tastes way better than the one you get at your local grocery store and its cheaper if you sign up to be a coach.  When you become a coach not only will you benefit from working out with the best products you will also receive a 25% discount on anything you purchase.  It’s a no brainer to do this program but only if your ready.  If your not there yet and need a little motivation then check out a less time consuming program like RevAbs.
