I wanted to write about Yoga X for several reasons because when you hear of Yoga you think to yourself that its only for chicks. I even went as far as convincing myself that it wasn’t going to do anything for me. Well step aside and try it for yourself because Yoga X is no Joke! I have never done Yoga before and never intended on doing so until I purchased the P90X program about 6 months ago. I have to admit that first you need patience and time with Yoga because it tests every muscle in your body. The first thing that killed me was looking at the amount of time it takes to do the workout and its a wonderful hour and 30 minutes. I tend to save this workout at night because you are so relaxed afterwords that all you want to do either go to bed or just hang low. The cool thing is that you get the best workout of your life and all it includes is hardcore stretching.

Since its is included in the program I wanted to follow it and proceeded to hit play. Before starting make sure you have some sort of mat and a Yoga Block. The first 10 minutes is a warm up and then the fun begins at 1 hr and 20 minutes. You do so many plank to chaturanga it gets tiring and the sweat keeps coming. The funny thing about Yoga is Tony Horton makes you do these all these poses that feel very awkward but actually work and help stretch your muscles. Some of the routines included Runners pose, Crescent pose and Warrior Pose. Apparently there are different levels of Yoga and as my wife lisa watched she even told me that the title Yoga Extreme was perfect.

After these sets of poses you then get into a more balancing act with Twisting while in a lung or twisting triangle. Its non stop action from here because the standing splits and half moons are next. Picture standing and then bending over with one leg in the air forming an L but then putting your hands on the ground touching your toes. Oh but I forgot to tell you that one hand needs to be twisted up in the air as well. Sounds like a mess but good thing I had Tony Horton to show me how its done.

You then get into lots of stretching moves here and test your balance as well strength. The main balance postures you go through are Tree, Royal Dancer and Standing Leg. I have never had a problem with my leg strength because I have played soccer all my life but these start to hurt after a 30 second hold. Of course when I say hurt its always a good hurt and not a bad one.

So finally after about 40 minutes you can be done and over with your harder part of the video and move on to the floor workouts which involve Crane, Frog and Plough to Shoulder. I will tell you what crane is just in case you forgot what it was. Your using the back of your arms as resting places for your knees to rest on while your head is about a half an inch to the ground. I’m on my second time through P90Xand can only last about 15-20 seconds until I fall out and have to re-position myself. In frog your pretty much on all four’s and then spreading your knees farther and farther apart until you cant stretch your groin anymore. I know its weird and awkward but its not as difficult for me anymore. When was the last time you laid on your back and then proceeded to lift your legs in the air while resting all your weight on your shoulders? A few moves are splitting your legs in the air and then bringing both legs behind you where your toes are touching the ground behind your head. Pretty intense but its the best feeling on your back. I’m in my car all day and my back gets sore from sitting for several hours. You get instant relief from your spine after this stretch. If you have a bad back then it may take time to get through this one but its awesome.

Yoga Belly 7 is when you can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. If you consistently due the Ab ripper X every other day then you will notice a lot of the same routines in this part of the workout. It still burns and tones your stomach area but isn’t as long as Ab Ripper X. After this section of the DVD its cool down time and your almost done.

This period is my favorite for when I do Yoga at night because its where you dim the lights and focus on breathing and cooling down. You may or may not like this part so if you sometimes skip it that’s OK. I don’t mind it once and a while because its relaxing. After doing an hour and 15 minutes though sometimes I’m ready to part ways for the night.

I hope I have helped convince some that Yoga X needs to be in your daily workout regime as it has done wonders for my flexibility. I’m glad I didn’t give up on this workout and my P90x results have proved to me that it’s a necessity. The best thing about this workout is that it helps you progress in other workouts as you are lifting and stretching your own weight. Yoga X helps you with pull ups, push ups, legs, back, chest, shoulders, abs and any other muscle in your body. I can promise you that this is the best workout that doesn’t involve any weights just pure concentration and core muscles.

Tony Horton says it best “I can do things at 45 not because I can do a bunch of pull ups, but because I do Yoga.”
