This program is very intense and the recovery day is much needed. It is a 32 minute video that consists of stretching and some pretty intense Yoga Moves. Shaun T starts you out with a quick 3 minute warm up and then the fun begins. I like to do this in the early morning or before bed time as I am super relaxed after. Don’t fool yourself this is easier but still a great slower workout.

Many of the moves in the Insanity Recovery DVD are almost the same moves as the other workouts but at a slower pace. The majority of the the workout is spent on focusing on your core and keeping everything in line and balanced.

The Recovery DVD consists of:

Plank Work and In and Outs- The In and Outs are so much slower and thank god because in the Plyometric circuit Dvd they are challenging.

Downward Dog- Tony Horton made this move popular in his Yoga X video so if you have done P90X it should be easy.

Hamstring stretching- Very obvious here and what a great feeling.

Squats- Shaun T takes you through many different versions of squatting and by here you can start to feel the burn once again.

Lunges- From regular ones to pulses you will be stretching and Feeling every sore muscle stretch.

Yoga Stretch- Massive concentration here folks. The video seems to get more difficult and it’s a fricken recovery Day! Come on Shaun T

Quad Strengtheners- He puts you on all fours and yes the stretching continues. Anyone looking for a better butt, look no further!

Oblique Work- Ab ripper X has nothing on this move! Get on all fours, knees off ground and move your knees to your head! OUCH!

Hip Flexors, Table Tops and Knee to Chest or a different way of doing Yoga X!

Either way the Insanity recovery Dvd is Intense and it will help you with your muscle soreness. If you haven’t already, please try the Recovery Shake as it is ships free by clicking on Home Direct.

The biggest question that everyone asks me is the one above. Is P90X worth it? Lets break this down a little bit and figure out if a $200 or less investment is worth it. It’s always about cost and results, so lets keep it simple. When you see a workout program on television you automatically think it’s a gimmick! I tried all kinds of gimmicky things like the Ab Roller, the Total Gym, and so on. Is P90X a gimmick? NO. It has been around for ten plus years and worked on me and several million others. P90X belongs to a family owned company called Beachbody. They carry a fine line of products like Chalean Extreme, Insanity, RevAbs, etc. The issue is will you commit to 90 days with one of the best trainers in the business? See you can do any exercise program and it will work or they wouldn’t sell it. So if your looking for proof, look no further my results were amazing! So now that you have seen proof lets get back to the P90X program.

Everyone program guarantee’s results but not this quickly, effective and not this drastic. My answer to the question above is YES, its worth it. Why? Proven results in millions of people including myself and a proven method. So let’s break this program down and show you the true value.

You can compare this program to any other one out there but if you want fast results then pick P90X or another Beachbody program.

For under $200 you will get the best trainer right in the comfort of you’re home. No driving to the gym, workout on you’re schedule, workout as little as 1 hour /day. Let me tell you that the program is not the easiest thing you will ever do and most likely the it will be the hardest thing you will ever do. This program is for the person that wants to make an extreme change. I always laugh when I tell people they should be in ”decent shape” for P90X because even if your in the best shape of you’re life you will struggle when you start this program. The biggest reason why is because it is based around muscle confusion. You will work muscles that you never even heard of. You will have to push through the pain everyday, 6 days a week for 90 days! Doing workouts like Kenpo, Yoga and Plyometrics that will target every part of you’re body. Every four weeks Tony Horton will work your body like no one else and as soon as you think its getting easy he switches it on you. Every 4 weeks is different and another reason why P90X is worth it. It is a 3 phase program and the breaking point is you’re first 30 days. For 30 days you will not see any results and neither will anyone else. Did you put that extra 30 plus pounds on in 30 days or 3 years? Exactly! So be patient and follow the program. Im convinced I want to buy P90X!

If you were handed a blue print to becoming rich in 3 years and that blue print 100% guaranteed that you would be rich, wouldn’t you follow it?

The same goes for P90X or any other Beachbody program. Follow and you will succeed guaranteed! Is P90X worth it to someone that is going to buy it and start it in a few weeks. NO! Keep making excuses people all those fatty foods will be in you’re face everywhere you go. Keep telling yourself this, that in 90 days I could be in the best shape EVER! Is P90X worth it? YES. If you’re convinced then lets talk about you’re investment.

It’s worth it so you’re options are to invest with a trusted beachbody coach like myself. I’m not going anywhere and have been doing this for almost 2 years. We are in this together and as soon as you purchase you will have me at you’re fingertips for any questions. So now I would like you to click on one of the options below and get ready for a lifetime opportunity. Good Luck!

Its time to explain day 3 of the Insanity workout program and it continues to live up to its name. If you’re wondering the picture you see to the right is me sweating my butt off at a workout with Shaun T himself. Before you start make sure you have the recovery drink in hand as it helps give you energy throughout the whole workout. So on average the first month of workouts consist of around 40 minutes and Cardio Power is just short of that at 39 min and 18 seconds. In that time period I think I counted seven 30 second breaks. I am starting to notice that the warm up is pretty similar to the rest of the first set of DVDs. The warm up consists of Jogging, Power Jacks, Log Jumps, Heisman 123, Butt Kicks, High Knees, and Vertical Jumps. If you would like a better explanation of any of the above check out my Plyometric Cardio Circuit post. These moves are 30 seconds each and are repeated in 3 rounds. Oh and no breaks in between but if you have done Kenpo X then you have had some practice.

15 Second Break!

After your long break Shaun T starts out his stretching routine which I personally love. Not because of the long 6 min and 40 second break but because when doing Insanity you need a good leg stretch. The warm up reminds me of Yoga X because of similarities in moves. If you are going to do this workout I suggest you go hard for the 10 minutes of warm ups because of the long stretch right after. Plenty of time to recoup and get your air back. If you really want to know how hard your heart is pumping or at what level you are at then look into a heart rate monitor. I suggest this Timex monitor as I got it for my 31st birthday, it works really well and it is priced reasonable.
Timex Ironman T5F001 Unisex 100-Lap Target Trainer Heart Rate Monitor Watch

So at this point the real fun begins with a similar set up as the warm up but with different exercises. After doing the workouts for a month it seems a little repetitive but very effective and that’s the point. So the 3 rounds consist of Power Jumps, Belt Kicks, Hit the Floor’s, and V-push ups. The most difficult is the Power Jump because it’s pretty much a jumping squat for 30 seconds straight. I still can’t finish without a 2 second break. You fortunately get 30 second breaks in between but the last round Shaun T decides to add Tricep Dips and Leg Dips. I can’t finish either one and I am in great shape. Get ready for water because your 30 seconds is counting and Tricep Ball Push Ups are next. They are kind of hard to explain but its a push up but your in a ball. Maybe it would be a good time to purchase Insanity and we can do this together. The opportunity to lose some serious weight in 60 days is amazing and if you want to get rid of any waist line then no time is better. With a combination of Insanity and Shakeology you are guaranteed to lose 20 plus pounds in 60 days.

If you act now you can get free shipping on the shakeology meal replacement!

The last set of exercises consist of Hurdle Jumps, Globe Jumps, Moving push ups, and Floor sprints. I thought I would lose all my muscle I gained from P90x but there are a lot of moves that build and tone every part of your body. If you are a runner then you need Insanity! The endurance and strength you get is amazing. I just got back from a cool resort in Mexicoand didn’t bring my DVDs with me and decided to run in 90 degree weather and holy crap I actually didn’t struggle. I ran 4 miles every other day with ease and I hate running long distance. After your 3 rounds Shaun T gives you a 30 second break and as you think FINALLY I’m done! NO WAY! There is one minute on the clock for what he calls 8 hop squats/8 push ups. I literally am dripping sweat at this point and can barely breath but remember those push ups will keep your upper body tight. With 3 minutes left of stretching, I just fall to the ground, lay down and thank myself for sticking with it. The opportunity is in you’re hands and if you have read this far then I think it’s time that you try it, so click on the link below and give me 60 days!

This is pretty much the first DVD in the set and boy was I surprised how hard a 42 minute long workout was. The Insanity workout begins with a warm up that consists of 3 minute intervals. These intervals are supposed to get your heart pumping and in the first 3 minutes I was pumping. You warm up for 9 total minutes and each round consists of jogging in place, Jumping Jacks, Heisman’s, Heisman 123, Butt Kicks, High Knees and Mummy Kicks. You can easily understand a few but a Heisman 123 is going back and forth and then going into a quick Heisman pose. Mummy kicks are kind of a joke but still decent cardio. Start with arms straight out and as you shuffle your feet you have to cross your hands at the same time. After all is done you get a quick 30 second break and holy crap that was just the warm up.

So honestly before I go any further Insanity is not a joke people it’s the real deal. I thought P90X was challenging but Insanity is challenging because there is a lot of non stop cardio involved. So after the 30 second break the stretching begins and for 7 minutes it is a much needed break. While stretching it’s good to have a towel because your constantly dripping sweat! Kind of gross! The stretching seems to be the same in the first set of workouts and reminds me of Yoga X from the P90X workouts. You are now almost half way through and as the stretching seems a little tedious I enjoy it as it is somewhat relaxing. Shaun T gives a quick 30 second and then its time once again to go into the interval training part of the Insanity workout. Get ready for another 23 minutes of crazy cardio!

A pretty typical Insanity workout consists of a two part interval training and in the second half you start your 2 minutes of Suicide Drills, Power Squats, Mountain Climbers and Ski Jumps. I think we have all done a suicide drill and high school or college may bring some of those memories back. That’s why you’re here right? To get back into that college or high school shape. I would say out of these drills the least effective for me was the ski jumps but if you focus more on the core it will be more effective. My favorite is the Insanity power squat because it keeps my butt in check with my pant size. It sounds like something a chick would say but after losing 28 pounds I don’t want to give it back. When you start to think you’re last interval is done he surprises you with another minute of switch feet and football sprints. I have this cool new phone called the “Incredible” and it is so easy to take video and download it so I have a short video below of this exact interval.

So remember that you do 3 rounds of the intervals above with a 30 second break only at the end of the 7 minutes. So by now I guarantee you’re hurting and probably already pushed the pause button once. The first few times through this workout I couldn’t finish and as I am writing this I can now say I can finish it. I am in my recovery week which is week 5 and only 4 more weeks to go baby!

I hope you took advantage of your 30 second break cause this next round is so hard that the people in the video are screaming in pain and stopping. Please don’t let this scare you as you will overcome this issue. The last 9 minutes are going to be brutal so just try and keep your own pace.

The last intervals consist of Basketball jumps, level 1 drills(4 push ups, then run it out for 8 seconds), Ski Abs and In and outs. Why is this so damn hard? Well try the level 1 drills for 30 seconds. Start in the standing position then jump down for 4 push ups and then in that stance run for 8 seconds. Oh wait then there is ski abs which is kicking you’re legs in the cradle position from left, center, right. At this point your arms are in so much pain that you begin to do knee push ups. Should I even explain In and Outs? Well stay in the push up position and get ready to kick your legs out then in crunching your abs. I know it sounds as painful as it looks in the video above. The funny thing is I didn’t tape myself in this round because I still struggle. If you can still breathe at this point congrats your almost done so take a quick 30 second water break and get ready for jabs, cross jacks ,upper cuts and open hand jabs. The extra round reminds me of kenpo X so if you have done that workout then you know whats coming. I believe there is 3 minutes of stretching but I haven’t had the energy to do it yet. At this point you’re feeling like a rock star but extremely exhausted. Remember to drink your recovery drink and use your shakeology to get all the goods in you. Good luck and if you have made it this far then click below and buy it today.

When I arrived at LAX international I had a little down time since my friend Brad and his girlfriend Andrea were not arriving until an hour and a half later. Something funny happened to me when I first arrived. After exiting the terminal I was paying attention and just continued to walk like I was leaving the airport. I actually walked all the way out of the airport as if I was getting picked up and after a few minutes of standing around I realized that I kicked myself out of the airport. I couldn’t go back in because they wouldn’t let me without an airline ticket. So what’s the funny part? It’s the part where I sat there for almost two hours watching people check in and starving because I hadn’t eaten anything since I left Michigan 4 hours before. It was weird because I really had nothing to do so good thing I had my headphones and a laptop (no internet). So my friends arrived and after getting our rental car we headed over to the Beachbody facility.

Arriving at the facility was quite an experience as I was really anticipating a very strict organization. Making our way into the building we were a little lost since the next tour had already started. We kind of made our way around until we asked where the heck we were supposed to be. Finally we ran into the current tour and we were at the point where they were showing the workout facility. The room is pretty cool with a flat screen on each side of the walls and the equipment in between.

Two sessions were going on and one was P90X legs and back and on the other side was Insanity. I took a couple of pictures and the two guys inside were cracking up because they were doing a Yoga X move called the chair pose. It is a pretty simple move but trust me you can feel the pain. After that we were taken through the area where employees can make shakes for after workouts. I saw some shakeology and one person was making the P90X recovery drink. This was right next to the wall of successful coaches and hopefully where I will be next year. My upline coach Blake was on the wall so it was nice to know that someone I know besides my friend Brad was making a killing with beachbody. After this short little hallway we proceeded to the sound production rooms and the best area of them all! Where they print the checks! Along with the other 22 thousand coaches I get a check from here as well.

Every where we went in the building people were super cool and very friendly. We were able to hang in Carl Daikeler’s office as well as John Congdon’s office. These two guys are the ones that started it all so thank you for helping me change my life. John was hanging around and everyone wanted to meet him. The other nice thing about the tour was all the success stories on the wall. There were pictures everywhere of people who were fat that did one of the workouts and lost a bunch of weight. The before and after resultswere so amazing! After touring a couple more areas the tour guide pointed out that the outdoor set for House was behind there building so I took a couple of shots but will post them in another article. Every boardroom had a huge flat screen as well as every desk had a 22 plus inch apple screen on it. As the tour finished up we headed back to the main entrance and posed for a photo op in front of the beachbody logo. I was starving at this point so myself, Brad and Andrea headed to the hotel to check in and tear up some food. Our first workout was at 5pm so I carb loaded because I knew I was going to sweat like crazy. I still ate a healthy meal but added noodles along with chicken.

Black Bean Brownies

Basically, instead of adding eggs and oil to the mix as directed on the box, you food-process a can of black beans (unseasoned, of course) and 1/4 cup of water. Add the mix and bake according to the directions on the box, and boom! You have delicious chewy brownies now with more fiber than fat.

1 15-oz. can unseasoned black beans, drained and rinsed

1/4 cup water

1 package brownie mix (12 to 14 oz.—I recommend a healthy one with whole-grain ingredients)

Puree beans and water in food processor or blender. Add beans to brownie mix, and bake according to package instructions. Do not add any other ingredients. Serves 16.

Preparation time: 10 minutes, plus baking time

Nutritional information (per serving; will vary depending on brownie mix used):

Remember that this isn’t going to taste horrible but it may not taste like your true chocolate brownie but that’s why your getting into the best shape of your life. P90X will get you there and eating healthy meals and some healthier deserts will kill some cravings along the way. Do you think celebrities pay for a personal trainer and then come home and eat whatever, NO! Make sure your still sticking with your workouts and doing every single one even if you don’t enjoy it as much. I disliked Yoga X because for a guy it was not easy to do all those stretches but now I’m so flexible its amazing! Please comment if you have tried them out.

Fire up your Abs is a great workout for your upper body and obviously your abs. It consists of 5 workouts and 3 rounds. It lasts about 40 minutes and is a great workout to do in the morning. I usually do my workouts in the morning and I like this one because it’s not so cardio focused and more strength focused. The warm up is usually the same for all the workouts and it is a little leg stretching and jumping jacks. With P90x it was necessary to focus on the warm up because it was way more intense on every workout but with RevAbs your focusing more on your core and stretching isn’t the focus its just trying to get the heart pumping.

The first workout is Plank and it is a push up position with your forearms flat on the ground. The point is to focus on squeezing your abs and keeping your back straight. Now when I first did this I thought it was too easy and never felt a burn but I was putting all the pressure on my arms and not by abs. This workout lasts a minute and then you move onto cobra.

Cobra is an exercise that focuses on your back because if you don’t have a strong back then you will not have good abs. All your doing is laying on you stomach with your feet together and lifting your upper body off the ground. You take your arms and form a U like shape and hold it for a minute. I was used to this move because In Yoga X Tony had us do so many plank to chaturanga’s that it was fairly easy for me. The only burn I got from this exercise was my shoulders from holding my arms up and I had a little trouble controlling my breathing.

Dumbbell Jackknife is next and probably my favorite of this workout. You get a really good burn on the Abs and it also works on your flexibility and shins. I get terrible shin splints from playing soccer and this exercise always relieves some pain. So I use a 20 pound weight for this one and you pretty much lay on your back in a sit up position and put the weight behind your head. You’re doing a weighted sit up and raising one leg at an 80 degree angle to meet in the middle. The other foot stays flat on the ground for balance and a little help on the way up. Brett has you do 8 on each side and trust me it’s pretty painful if you use a heavy weight so make sure you challenge yourself.

Side plank is next and it’s a fairly simple exercise that works the love handles. Its like plank as described above but with one forearm on the ground and your body side ways with one hand high in the air. Your feet and legs on top of each other and keep your hips as straight as possible. Its only 30 seconds on each side but after a few weeks the love starts to become muscle.

The last exercise is striders and it’s a cardio move that works your whole body. For 30 seconds you are scissoring your legs and arms from front to back as quickly as possible. If you lead with the left leg then you lead with your right arm.

After the striders you take a quick break and start round 2 which leads into the last round called the spice round. Brett adds a spice round to every workout and always does it during round 3. The spice round is always the same exercise’s but with a little more ump! I will give you an example, for plank instead of just staying in the plank position you rotate lifting your arms up in the air for a 3 count. Not only does it kill your balance but your shoulders as well. He adds a little extra burn so you can feel it more at the end. I think every workout has satisfied me and I can’t stress enough how nice the workouts are time wise. The 90 day schedule is easy and not as time consuming as P90X. Remember that after an intense workout you should always give yourself time to recover and there is no better way to help with that than the recovery drink. I’m hoping that my next 45 days will get me the same results as when I did the P90x program.
